Frequently asked

Does the app work offline?

Yes. Course search needs an internet connection, but once you start a round all scoring works fully offline. Your data syncs back when you come online.

Is my data sent anywhere?

Your rounds, scores, and player data are stored only on your device — they never leave your phone. The only data sent off-device is anonymous crash reports (so I can fix bugs) and course search queries when you look up a course.

Why can't I find my local course?

The course database covers most public courses but doesn't include every small muni, par-3, or private club. If you hit "Can't find your course?" you can still play and score the round manually.

How do I delete all my data?

Deleting the app from your device removes all locally stored rounds, scores, and player data permanently. There's nothing to delete on a server because nothing is stored there.

I have a feature request — will you build it?

Maybe! Email me at the address above. Bug reports get fixed fastest, but I read every feature suggestion and the good ones often land in the next release.

Information Collected

The app collects only what's needed to function:

  • Scorecard data — golf scores, rounds, course names, players, and stats you enter. Stored only on your device.
  • Crash data — when the app crashes, an anonymous crash report is sent to our error-monitoring service (Sentry) so bugs can be diagnosed and fixed. No personal identifiers are attached.
  • Location data — only with your permission, as described in Section 2.

The app does not require account creation. We don't collect your name, email, contacts, photos, or payment information.

Location Data

Location access is requested only to:

  • Find nearby golf courses to pre-populate scorecard information
  • Display relevant course data based on your current position
Your choice: Location access is optional. The core scorecard features work without it. You can grant or revoke location permission anytime in your device settings. We request "While Using the App" access only — never background location.

Location data is used in real time and is not stored on any server.

How Information Is Used

Collected information is used to:

  • Operate and deliver app features (scorekeeping, course lookup, round history)
  • Diagnose and fix crashes via anonymous crash reports
  • Comply with applicable laws and legal obligations

Your information is not used for targeted advertising. Data is never sold to any third party.

Data Sharing

The only data that leaves your device is:

  • Anonymous crash reports to Sentry (sentry.io) — used solely for error monitoring and bug fixing.
  • Course search queries — sent to the Golf Course API and Google Places API when you search for a course.

We may also share information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of users or the public.

Data Retention

Scorecard data is stored locally on your device and persists until you delete the app or clear its data. Anonymous crash reports are retained by Sentry only as long as needed for debugging, then deleted.

Your Rights & Choices

  • Location: Enable or disable anytime via Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Par For The Course.
  • Data deletion: Deleting the app removes all locally stored data from your device permanently.
  • Crash reporting opt-out: Email the support address below and crash reports for your install will be excluded from collection.

Depending on your jurisdiction (e.g., California CCPA, EU GDPR), you may have additional rights to access, correct, or delete personal information. Contact us to exercise these rights.

Children's Privacy

Par For The Course is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us and it will be deleted promptly.

Security

Reasonable technical and organizational measures are in place to protect your information. Because scorecard data is stored locally on your device, we encourage you to use your device's built-in security features (passcode, Face ID, etc.).

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. If you have any security concern, please contact us.

Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated from time to time. When that happens, the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page will change. For significant changes, in-app notice may be provided. Your continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
